Century each by Gopal Bose and Palash Nandy helped Bengal trounce Orissa by an innings and 195 runs on the second day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Eden Gardens in Calcutta today. This was Bengal’s 23rd win and 17th by innings margin in 24 Ranji Trophy matches against Orissa.
Put into bat by Orissa captain NN Swamy, Bengal rode on a 226-run partnership between Gopal Bose and Palash Nandy to declare their first innings at 362 for three. In reply, Orissa were dismissed for 93 to concede a first-innings lead of 269 runs.
Forced to follow on, Orissa folded up for 74 in the second essay. Vinod Gupta was only Orissa player to show some resistance, picking up two wickets and top-socring in the first innings with 27 runs. Orissa bowler P Sarkar made his first-class debut in this match.
